Led by the pseudonymous Shytoshi Kusama, the Shiba Inu team recently launched SHIB Name Service (SNS), marking the first step toward the development of Shibdentity.
Launched on Shibarium on Tuesday, the SHIB Name Service is an identity development that introduces human-readable addresses to the Shiba Inu ecosystem.
Said differently, SNS eliminates the need for long and complex SHIB wallet addresses by allowing users to create easy-to-remember addresses in the format — name.shib.
Why SHIB Name Service Matters
According to the launch announcement, the primary aims of SNS are to provide enhanced security, reduce errors and enable ease of transactions for SHIB users.
More so, this strategic development fosters interoperability and collaboration among different platforms as SNS is designed to work with Shibarium-based applications and services.
The decentralized nature of the SNS further ensures that the registered identities of SHIB users are protected from censorship.
Notably, SNS is extensible as it goes beyond supporting Shibarium addresses. In other words, SHIB names have the potential to be used with other cryptocurrencies and decentralized websites. To get your SHIB name and enjoy its benefits, visit name.shib.io.
As earlier reported by Nitadel, the launch of the SHIB Name Service marks a new era on Shibarium. It also represents the first step towards the deployment of Shibdentity.
For the uninitiated, Shibdentity is an upcoming Shiba Inu-powered decentralized identity platform that empowers users to own and control their digital identities.
As stated by the team, Shibdentity would introduce self-custodial authentication, decentralized verifiable credentials, and smart wallets to the Shiba Inu ecosystem.
